About David

I never dreamed of being a musician. In fact, for most of my adult life, I’ve been interested in international affairs. This led me to Washington, DC for graduate school where I worked in defense during the day and went to school at night. I loved my work but decided to leave Washington and return to my hometown, Los Angeles, to start a family—and become a real estate agent. After some time, I became frustrated with work and desperate from feeling that I had much more of myself to give. I didn’t know what to do. I heard journaling might help sort things out so I drove to a coffee shop outside of town (not wanting to run into anyone I knew) and began to write. I was surprised to find myself writing a poem that came with a melody. I had never played an instrument in my life and certainly never written music or much less even thought about being a singer. Two hours later, I left with my first song.

I went back to that same coffee shop week after week and wrote more poems—more songs. I enjoyed the sense of purpose I got from writing and the mysterious way I received it—I didn’t know where it came from, and, quite frankly, couldn’t believe what I was doing. I decided to buy an acoustic guitar and with an obsessive determination, learned to play during the pandemic, bringing the songs I wrote and heard in my head, to life.

In my music you will hear influences everywhere from Bruce Springsteen and Johnny Cash to George Strait and Elton John.

My story is not an uncommon one— so many of us have an undiscovered purpose resting quietly within. My songs are proof that we all have something yet to give, something yet to do, and something yet to become. My story tells us that it’s never too late.
