About David

I never dreamed of being a musician. For most of my life I’ve been interested in international affairs. This led me to Washington, DC for grad school where I worked during the day and went to school at night. I loved the work but after graduating, I left Washington and returned to my hometown, Los Angeles, to start a family—and become a real estate agent. After some time, I became frustrated and desperate from feeling that I had much more to give in this life. I felt trapped. So I drove to a coffee shop outside of town (not wanting to run into anyone I knew) and began to write. Surprisingly, I wrote a poem that came with a melody. I had never written a song, much less ever played an instrument, in my life. I certainly never dreamt of being a singer. Two hours later, I left with my first song.

I went back to that same coffee shop week after week and wrote more poems—more songs. I enjoyed the sense of purpose I got from writing and the mysterious way I received it. I bought an acoustic guitar and with an obsessive determination (during the pandemic), learned to play, bringing the songs I wrote, to life.

In my music you will hear influences everywhere from Bruce Springsteen and Johnny Cash to George Strait and Elton John.

My story is not an uncommon one— so many of us have an undiscovered purpose sleeping quietly within. My songs are proof that we all have something yet to give, something yet to do, and something yet to become. My story tells us that it’s never too late.
